Wax version made with silicone mould taken from polymer clay version [link]

My first time using silicone moulds. the sculpey version broke into many pieces when i attempted to de-mould it, which is a shame, as i would have liked to keep it to decorate a box or something. Took me four goes pouring wax into the mould to get something i could work with, the blue parts are softer wax where i have had to patch in bits that didn't form in the mould properly.

next time i will try and make the sculpey form more robust, and will buy some proper casting wax as opposed to the carving stuff i used here.

still rough in a few places but that's kinda my style. once its cast i'll attack it with habras disks and polish it all up. hopefully have it cast next week.

would make a fetching hood ornament for the Nautilus :D

I think it's lovely, a bit scary and yes too large to really wear, but I'd sell my left nut to own it anyways :D

hah, large in the sense that it will probably cost me a lot to have it cast in silver!

How long did it take you to make the mould for the piece?

It's wonderful. I enjoy the texture, and the blue patches give it some life, you know? Since they are the chameleons of the sea ;]

Is that random chunk of wax by its left eye staying?

Not too long, made a little plasticene box for it to sit in, mixed up the silicone, poured it, realised it wasn't enough, freaked out, mixed more, poured it, still not enough, mixed more, poured it. only takes 15 minutes or so to set. if that. when i took the piece out and it all shattered, i spent a little time cutting up the mould with a scalpel blade to make the shapes ease out better.

the blue patches won't be there when it's cast, sadly, it'll be all silver. i'll experiment with some patination techniques.

his left or your left? if it's your left, that's actually the funnel, the thing he uses to jet around, you just can't see the hole in it very well from this angle. whole things had a bit more texture now too.

thank you!
